Born near Manchester in 1964, in a textile family, Michiel Scheffer studies geography in Utrecht and London. He obtained his PhD in 1992 on a thesis on the globalisation of the clothing industry. He worked from 1991 till 2000 at Fenecon (now Modint). He was also a professor at AMFI and Saxion in fashion and textile management.
He has lead seven large studies for the EU on the textile industry as well as in Pakistan, Sri Lanka. After a term as regional minister in the province of Gelderland (NL) from 2015 to 2019, he became program manager sustainable textiles at Wageningen University and research. He is also board member of the Dutch Circular Textile Valley and has several other function in the textile sector and in professional and higher education.
