The Industry We Want
The Industry We Want (TIWW) is a multi-stakeholder initiative launched to drive industry-wide progress across the garment and footwear sector.
TIWW envisages a garment and footwear industry that realises its full potential to ensure dignity for workers in decent jobs, thriving businesses along the supply chain and a positive impact on the planet.
To realise this vision, the initiative is developing a set of industry-wide indicators to measure progress on an annual basis and galvanise action across the social, commercial and environmental spheres.
TIWW indicators will act as an annual ‘traffic light’ or ‘temperature check’ for the industry as a whole – one that will help to stimulate progress, support alignment and encourage information exchange, collaboration and policy change where necessary.
For the first phase, the initiative prioritised three areas: wages, purchasing practices and GHG emissions
Purchasing Practices indicator
In October, TIWW launched our Purchasing Practice metric in partnership with The Better Buying Institute. The Better Buying Institute’s Partnership Index Survey is a short, accessible set of 15 questions for manufacturers about the relationships with their brand partners. It requires only 5 – 10 minutes to complete for each client.
All entries are anonymous and will contribute to a final score for the sector as well as brand specific-results that can be accessed through BBI subscription. The aggregated results will be used for the TIWW Purchasing Practices metric. These will act as an annual ‘temperature check’ on purchasing practices in the garment and footwear industry, contributing to efforts to drive progress and accelerate change.
The Survey was launched on 1st October and will close on 19th November.
